SUNAMGANJ, Oct 30 (UNB): Feud between two lawmakers of ruling Awami League (AL), Mr Suranjit Sengupta and Mr Matiur Rahman, over the ownership of a plot of land has created tension in Dirai Upazila headquarters of the district.
Sources said both sides have been trying to take the possession of the disputed land by force. Additional riot police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
Sources said Mr Matiur Rahman MP, also the district AL president, bought 16 decimal lands in the municipality area 40 years back from one Mr Aziz of Anwartur village.
A relative of Mr Matiur has been living there after building a house since then.
Mr Suranjit Sengupta said, "I have filled the land as it's my family property". "Though I have all the supporting documents, Mr Matiur claims the ownership of the land."
Mr Matiur Rahman said Mr Suranjit Sengupta is known as a land grabber in the area.
Upazila AL president Altab Uddin said the feud is gradually turning into a political strife in the upazila.
