The Election Commission (EC) has served show cause notices on two councillor candidates of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections on charges of violating the electoral code of conduct, reports bdnews24.com.
Omar Khayyam Chanchal of ward-11 and Saiful Islam of ward-16 were served notices for issuing advertisements in the newspapers before the stipulated campaigning period, returning officer Biswas Lutfar Rahman told reporters on Friday.
The committee, formed by the EC on Thursday to look over the electoral expenditure of the candidates and stop the use of 'black money' to buy votes in elections started work on Friday.
The committee led by the returning officer also visited some 'risky' and 'most risky' polling centres where close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are expected to be installed.
The returning officer along with the Upazila election officials and assistant returning officers visited some polling centres and areas of seven wards including Nalua, Dewbhog, West Dewbhog, Chashara, Talla and Khanpur.
The electoral commission on Sept 22 declared schedule for the NCC polls.
According to them, votes will be cast at 1,217 polling booths in 163 centres. In addition, there will be one temporary centre with 50 booths. Premises of 131 organisations will be used as poll centres.
