Two-day SCBA polls begin today

The two-day election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will begin today (Wednesday), reports UNB.
The voting will be held from 10:00am to 5:00pm today and tomorrow (Thursday) with a one-hour break from 100pm every day.
A seven-member panel, headed by senior lawyer M Nur Hossain Chowdhury, will conduct the election.
A total of 35 candidates, including 14 each from the Awami League-backed and the BNP-blessed panels, will contest the election for 14 posts of the association.
Former Law Minister Abdul Matin Khasru and Advocate Rabiul Islam Budu from the Awami League panel while Bangladesh Bar Council Vice-chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain and current SCBA general secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon from the BNP-backed panel will contest for the posts of president and general secretary respectively.
A total of 4,055 lawyers of the country's apex court are likely to exercise their franchise in the polls.
