Two 'drug traders' die in Rajshahi, N'ganj 'gunfights'


Two suspected drug traders were killed in reported gunfights with police in Rajshahi and Narayanganj districts in the early hours of Tuesday, reports UNB.
The dead are Alamin, son of Mohonlal of Harpur under Kashiadanga thana of Rajshahi city and Biplab (32), son of Sultan Mia of Fatullah in Narayanganj city.
Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said police conducted an anti-narcotics drive at Dam-5 of the Padma River around 3:30am.
Sensing their presence, drug peddlers opened fire on them. In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back, triggering a gunfight, he said.
Later, police recovered Alamin's body from the river, he said.
Quamrul Islam, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police in Narayanganj, said acting on a tip-off, a special DB team conducted a drive at a microbus stand of Chandmari in Fatulla around 3:00 am.
Sensing their presence, drug traders opened fire on them. In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back in self-defence, he said. Later, Biplab was found dead on the spot, said the SI.
