Two engineers and an employee of Education Engineering Directorate (EED) amassed millions of taka in cash and assets during the last ten years through corrupt practices.
Investigating sources told BSS Monday that they made their fortunes by awarding tenders through corrupt practices and indulging in other irregularities in the development works of the directorate.
The sources said the alleged corrupt elements are former Chief Engineer SSMA Mannan, Executive Engineer MA Hannan and CBA leader and stenographer Abul Kader.
The sources said former Chief Engineer SSMA Mannan had properties in the capital and Savar and other places in the outskirts in his own name and in the name of his wife Sakina Parvin.
According to preliminary findings most of the properties of Mr Mannan are in the name of his wife which included House Number 32 of road number 10/A in Dhanmondi, House Number 25 in Paribagh, 36 decimal of land in Kunapara village of Sarulia, two flats at house number 45 in Dhanmodi 4/A of Urban Development and Design, the sources added.
Besides these properties, the sources said, Mr Mannan has a four storied building on 12 decimal land in his Masterpara village of Naogaon district and five bighas of land in Ashulia in Savar. He also has properties adjacent to the five bighas which is worth over Taka 10 million.
The former chief engineer also owns a duplex flat at 13/2 Dhanmondi and has business concern at 19 Kalicharan Shah Road at Mill Barrack. Besides there are allegations that Mr Mannan has a plot in Nikunja and more than one house in Rupnagar.
The investigating sources said they have concrete evidence that CBA leader Abdul Kader who started as a domestic help at the house of the former chief engineer Mannan now owns a sprawling villa at Mollartek of Uttara and three cars.
He had visited different countries on his own expenses at least for five to six times. Kader has millions of taka as bank balance at different banks and owns over 50 acres of land at his village home.
There are wide ranging allegations against executive engineer M A Hannan, the sources said and added according to investigators' evidence the executive engineer sold tender schedule to only five contractors instead of all eligible contractors for development work of 11 model schools causing loss of public money to the tune of Taka three crore.
The sources said allegations have already been filed against these corrupt persons of EED but action is yet to be taken against them.
