Two ex-IGPs remanded

Two former IGPs - Shahidul Haque and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun - were taken to the Dhaka CMM Court for remand hearing in two separate murder cases on Wednesday. — Focus Bangla

Former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been place on eight-day remand and another former IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque placed on seven-day remand in two murder cases.

Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate court in Dhaka, Md Akteruzzaman, passed the orders after hearing two separate remand prayers filed by police.

Mamun was placed on an eight-day remand after he was produced before the court at 7:10 am with a 10-day remand prayer in a case filed over the death of a grocery shop owner, Abu Sayed, in Mohammadpur area on July 19.

S M Amir Hamza Shatil, plaintiff of the case, on August 13 filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) in Dhaka against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six others.

After primary hearing on the case, Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury asked the Mohammadpur Police Station in the city to register the case statement as an FIR (First Information Report).

In addition, Shahidul was placed on a seven-day remand after he was produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in a case filed over the death of 45-year-old trader Abdul Wadud in the city's New Market area on July 19 during quota reform protests.

On August 21, Abdur Rahman, a brother-in-law of Wadud, filed the case with New Market Police Station against Hasina and 129 others.

In another development, Abdullahel Kafi, an additional superintendent of police in Dhaka district, was placed on eight-day remand in a case filed with Hazaribagh thana on charge of abducting a minor, Alif Mynuddin, in 2019.
