RAJSHAHI, July 28 (BSS) : Two front-ranking leaders of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP, ML-Lal Pataka) were killed in a fierce gunfight between cohorts of the outlaws and a joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police at Mohadighi Sadupur under Atrai Upazila of Naogaon District in the early hours of Tuesday.
RAB sources said the extremist were identified as Abdus Salam alias Tapu, (40), son of Jana Bauksha, a resident of the same area and Jahangir Alam alias Jalal, (38), son of Nobab Pramanik of Goalkandi village under Bagmara Upazila of Rajshahi District.
They were fugitives in a number of criminal cases, including five sensational killings and extortion.
On a tip-off, the joint team went to the Mohadighi area in a bid to arrest the underground terrorists and recover illegal firearms.
After arrival on the spot, the law enforcers came to know that some 10/15 terrorists were holding a meeting in a crop field for committing subversive activities in the area.
