The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allocated Tk 3.0 billion  from its Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) to public and private universities for setting up quality assurance (QA) cells, reports UNB.
UGC chairman Prof AK Azad Chowdhury revealed this at the concluding ceremony of a workshop on quality assurance at the UGC auditorium Thursday.
Mr Chowdhury said Tk 3.0 billion has been allocated for setting up the QA cells in universities in addition to the Tk 4.0 billion allocations made from the AIF to research sub-projects at public-private universities.
The QA cells will be connected to international QA agencies which will gradually pave the way for setting up an accreditation council for higher education, he added.
