BAGERHAT, July 7 (UNB): A union parishad (UP) chairman and Jubo League leader was arrested from Borobaria Bazar in Chitalmari Upazila Friday night in an extortion case.
The police said Borobaria UP chairman Ohiduzzaman Panna, also Jubo League vice president of Chitalmari Upazila, demanded Tk 0.1 million (1.0 lakh) as toll from UP member M Masud while he was implementing some development projects in the union. Later, Masud gave him Tk 20,000.
Masud filed a case against three people, including the UP chairman on Thursday, the police said.
Another report from Rajbari adds: The police arrested a listed terrorist from Husnabad market in Pangsha Upazila Friday.
The arrested was identified as Sobhan (45), a cadre of the infamous 'Sagar group' of the locality.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the market and arrested him at night. The police said he was wanted in a number of criminal cases.
