The United States (US) has provided the Bangladesh navy with sixteen 25-foot Defender boats to improve its counter-terrorism capabilities, reports bdnews24.com.
US Ambassador in Bangladesh James F Moriarty Tuesday handed over the boats to Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral MF Habib, the US embassy said in a statement.
It said the US government had provided the Defender boats at Bangladesh's request to improve abilities of the Bangladesh Navy and coastguard to disrupt criminal organisations and trans-national terrorist groups seeking to exploit Bangladesh's maritime borders.
The US also donated five additional boats to the Bangladesh coastguard -- which made the donation the largest delivery of US coastguard boats to any nation.
