Voter registration going on in full swing in M’singh

MYMENSINGH, Aug 20 (BSS): Registration of voters with photographs and preparation of national identity (ID) cards are going on in full swing with much enthusiasm in the Mymensingh Municipality area.
On the second day Monday, males and females were seen in long queues from the morning for registering their names in the voters' list.
The Election Commission with the help of army personnel has been carrying out the activities for registration of voters under a pilot project in the name of "Operation Nobojatra".
Taking of photographs of legal voters and their fingerprints started Sunday in the five wards out of 21 wards of the municipality.
District Election Officer Rashedul Islam told the news agency that after completion of the registration of voters in the five wards, work for taking photographs and fingerprints would begin in other five wards of the municipality.
Election office sources said photographs and fingerprints of 7,121 legal voters of the five wards were taken Sunday at the 26 centres on the first day of the voters registration programme in the municipality area.
The sources said 1,440 persons were registered from ward No-1, 1,885 from word No-2, 1,587 from ward No-3, 1,086 from ward No-4 and 1,123 from ward No-5 of the municipality.
The Bangladesh Army has set up a centre to collect data to prepare a database for the purposes at the Teachers' Training College (male) at the district town.
A total of 21 assistant registration officers, 107 supervisors, 516 enumerators and 260 data entry operators have been working for implementing the programme.
