Voter registration progressing satisfactorily in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 24 (BSS): Work on preparing a fresh voters' list with photographs and national identity cards (NICs) in Rangpur pourasabha area is progresses successfully with huge enthusiasm among the common people.
Officials sources said the pilot project dealing with the task began Sunday and a total of 28,589 voters completed their formalities including photography and giving fingerprints until Thursday at 15 computerised registration centres in Ward Nos 1, 2 and 3.
According to the previous voter list, the number of voters in the three wards are 37,104. The data collectors have enrolled 33, 316 voters in the said ward after door-to-door visits.
Tomorrow, voter registrations will begin at 18 more computerised centres in Ward Nos 4, 5 and 6 as the process concludes in Ward Nos 1, 2 and 3 this evening.
Subsequently, voter registrations will be completed at the rest 54 computerised centres in Ward Nos 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 by next September 13, the sources said.
Earlier, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division and Area Commander of Rangpur Syed Fatemi Ahmed Roomy launched the project in a ceremony jointly organised by Rangpur Pourasabha and district administration at the auditorium of Rangpur Teachers' Training College (RTTC) Sunday.
