COMILLA, May 19 (UNB): Voting in two polling centres in Sadar Upazila of the district was postponed following ballot paper snatching and bomb explosion during polls in 12 upazila parishads in eight districts Monday.
Locals said a group of miscreants exploded several crude bombs and snatched a large number of ballot papers from Chhayabithi Government Primary School and Afzal Khan Technical College polling centres of the upazila at about 10:15 am.
Returning Officer Rashedul Islam confirmed the postponement of voting.
On the other hand, another group of miscreants looted 600 ballot papers from Subarnapur Government Primary School polling centre of the same upazila at about 10:00 am.
They beat up a presiding officer with stick as he resisted them, locals said.
Awami League-backed upazila chairman aspirant Abdur Rauf and BNP-backed Fazlul Haqur were contesting the election in the upazila.
