BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday urged all to vow inspired with the sacrifices of the martyred intellectuals to establish a democratic government through waging an 'irresistible' movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia, reports UNB. He made the call while presiding over a discussion organised by BNP at Engineers' Institute auditorium marking the Martyred Intellectuals' Day. Fakhrul alleged that Awami League (AL) had destroyed the country's economy after the Liberation War and now it has become a heavy stone for the people. "They (AL) are again trying to establish one-party BKSAL rule in a different way," he said. Addressing the discussion as the chief guest, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said the AL had shattered the spirit of the Liberation War by destroying democracy through establishing one-party BKSAL rule during its post-independence tenure. He said the key spirit of the Liberation War was to establish democracy in the country, ensure freedom of press and attain economic emancipation. Moudud said democracy and the spirit of the Liberation War will have to be restored through waging another struggle under the leadership of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia
