Water distribution of Teesta finalised

Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said on Friday the water distribution ratio of Teesta River has been finalised, reports BSS.

"The water distribution ratio of Teesta River has been finalised and we are very much hopeful about settling the issues of Teesta water sharing through understanding between the countries," he said.  

He disclosed this while speaking at the inaugural session of the three-day 5th International Conference on Water and Flood Management at BRAC Centre Inn in the city.

Assuring to disclose the distribution ratio later, the minister said, "India has assured us in several official letters that no treaty will be made that could hamper the normal life of Bangladeshi people."

Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) is organising the conference to discuss the problems and issues on advance knowledge in water and flood management in order to promote sustainable development.

The conference aims at addressing complex issues of water and flood management that plays a key role in economic growth, social development and environmental health and it is expected to work as a platform for different stakeholders to meet and exchange ideas, share their research findings and fine tune policies in accordance with updated knowledge.

Representatives from different countries including the Netherlands, Japan, Iran, Nepal, India, and the USA are participating in the conference where a total of 66 essays will be presented at several sessions.

BUET vice-chancellor Prof Khaleda Ekram, Prof Dr Abul Fazal M Saleh also spoke.
