Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain called upon all on Friday to face the conspiracies being hatched against the country jointly.
"The fallen autocratic ruler (Sheikh Hasina) fled the country following student-mass uprising. She is constantly hatching conspiracy sitting in India to destabilise the country," he said while addressing as the chief guest a discussion meeting marking the Fall of Dictatorship ( of HM Ershad) Day on December 6 (1990), organised by the leaders of the then 90s Sarbadaliya Chhatra Oikkya at the National Press Club.
"Conspiracy is going on to fail the interim government. We, irrespective of our political identity, must face that conspiracy. We must defend our country," he said.
"Hindu community in Bangladesh is living here with harmony. But today India also with some of our Hindu people are inciting the unrest (alleging persecution and torture) aiming to tarnish our image to the world and thus trying to create chaos here in Bangladesh," he continued.
"The interim government is the outcome of the student-mass uprising against fascist Sheikh Hasina. This government is a neutral government and we support this. This government will leave power to an elected government after holding a free, fair and credible national election," he maintained.
"There must be reforms in electoral system and there should be an election roadmap," he observed.
While presiding over the discussion, former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) and also one of the veteran members of anti-Ershad movement during 90s Amanullah Aman recommended incorporating the backgrounds or history of all anti-autocratic movements in the past and names of the persons involved with that in textbooks.
"We have achieved our country's independence and sovereignty at the cost of ocean of bloods and we must defend our country," he said.
"Today conspiracy against the country started. We must be united and face all the conspiracies," he added.
BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon and adviser to the party's chairperson, Jahir Uddin Swapan, were present, among others.
Meanwhile, in another programme, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday that India started taking stand against Bangladesh after the fall of fascist Sheikh Hasina.
"We don't like to do trade and business with those who (India) are bearing such expansionist mentality. If India doesn't change its present behaviour pattern towards Bangladesh, then the people of the country would be compeled to think whether they (Bangladeshi people) would do trade and businesses with them (India) further," he said while inaugurating local products selling activities organised by Dhaka north Krishak Dal at Gulshan in the capital.
"India doesn't like the government which the people of Bangladesh want. They (India) think that Bangladeshi people will die if they (India) stop supplying (exporting) onion, garlic and ginger to us ( Bangladesh)," he said.
"They (India) believe that Bangladesh couldn't produce those products," he stated.
"They (India) may think that Bangladesh couldn't import essential products from other countries if they stop exporting to us (Bangladesh). People of Bangladesh go to India for treatment by spending dollars. Residential hotels in Kolkata started facing financial losses (due to the absence of Bangladeshi people) . Bangladeshi people don't like to go there (India) considering the hatred that they (India) bear against Bangladesh," he said.
Criticising Indian media, Mr Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said," Republic tv of India raised demands that some parts of Bangladesh are Indian territory. If they (India) raise that demand further then the people of Bangladesh will also make a counter demand for giving back Odissa, Bengal (Paschim Bangla) and Bihar as those once were the parts of their motherland (Bangladesh)," he continued.
"Citing the reason of so-called communal unrest, they (India) actually want to establish their hegemony here in Bangladesh. And for this reason they (India) don't have good relationship with their neighbours," he mentioned.
Member of BNP executive committee Uzzal and convener of Gulshan unit Krishak Dal Mirazur Rahman Sohag were present, among others.
