BNP Thursday asked the government to immediately withdraw 'conspiratorial' charge-sheets and politically motivated cases against party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Senior Joint Secretary-general Tarique Rahman and other leaders, as an exoneration process for the politicians is now underway with the change of winds, reports UNB.
"The government should also withdraw the cases against Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and the party leaders in the same processes in which it has withdrawn all conspiratorial charge-sheets and politically motivated cases against Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and her party leaders," said BNP Secretary-general Khanadaker Delwar Hossain.
He made the appeal while talking to reporters after offering floral wreath at Zia's mazar to observe BNP leader Tarique Rahman's jail-release day, which was marked with different programmes, including a march through the city thoroughfares with the party faithfuls chanting their demand.
Khandaker Delwar urged the government to immediately take step for withdrawing the politically motivated cases against Khaleda, her elder son Tarique and other BNP leaders on the basis of fairness and the rule of law, shunning "double standard and deception".
BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Begum Khaleda Zia along with the party leaders and workers offered fateha and flowers at the tomb of her slain husband, President Ziaur Rahman, at 11.30 am.
A prayer was offered for peace and progress of the country, consolidation of national independence and sovereignty and early recovery of Tarique Rahman, who went through ordeals after his arrest amid a crackdown on the political bigwigs following the 1/11 changeover.
BNP Joint Secretary-general Mirza Abbas, Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abedin Farooque and Dhaka city Mayor Sadeq Hossain Khoka were, among others, who offered their tributes to the party founder.
