Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) demanded on Wednesday that the government withdraw curfew, stop torture, harassment and arrest of the opposition leaders and reopen the educational institutions.
Secretary General of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the demand in a statement issued on the day saying that the government was doing whatever it wanted to protect itself from public wraths.
He accused the government of destroying the state systems including democracy and grossly violating human rights.
He said that the people did not have voting rights and freedom of speech as well.
Mr Fakhrul Islam also said, "The government has committed an unforgivable crime by carrying out brutal attack on the students during their quota reform movement."
He said that many parents could not yet find out their missing children.
He added that the Detective Branch (DB) of police had picked up Masrur Hasan, a student of a private university from Jatrabari in the capital on July 25 night but his parents could not find him at the police station, DB office and various hospitals.
Mr Fakhrul Islam said that in the name of security, six coordinators of the student movement for job quota repeal were picked up by the DB while under treatment at hospital and taken into its custody without arresting them again.
