Withdrawal of Independence Award of Sarsina Peer sought

PIROJPUR, Dec 11 (BSS): Freedom Fighters (FFs) as well as local leaders and elite of the district are demanding withdrawal of Independence Award given to Peer of Sarsina Abu Zafar Mohammad Saleh.

Military dictator turned president late General Ziaur Rahman handed over the Independence Award to the Peer of Sarsina, a leading anti-liberation element, on the eve of the Independence Day in 1980.

Meanwhile, the country's apex court sentenced life imprisonment to heinous war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, while the verdict of another war criminal Rajakar Commander Abdul Jabbar will be pronounced any day.

Though the people of Pirojpur heaved a sigh of relief 43 years after independence with the punishment and trial of two worst war criminals, they do not want to see the Independence Award being retained by the Peer of Sarsina, another "war criminal".
