Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inuon said on Tuesday workers should stand against the militants, militancy and conspirators who work against the country, alongside demanding their minimum wage, reports UNB.
The minister made the remarks at a rally organised by Jatiya Sramik Jote (National Workers Alliance) at the city's Bangabandhu Avenue marking the May Day.
Inu, also the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), said, "It's necessary to ensure minimum wage for workers so that they can lead a decent life."
But, he said, it is also important for the workers to stand against the militants, militancy and conspirators who want to derail them.
The minister also said the workers should raise their voice against the vested quarters who are trying to keep women within the four walls of their houses in the name of religion.
Demanding a minimum wage of Tk 18,000 for garment workers, JSD general secretary Shirin Akhter, also a women rights activist, said, "Labour is not a cheap thing; owners should pay them the highest."
President of National Labour Alliance Saifuzzaman Badsha presided over the meeting.
Meanwhile, a rally, led by State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque, was brought out in the morning from the city's Dainik Bangla point that paraded up to the Jatiya Press Club.
