The World Refugee Day was celebrated in a festive mood Wednesday at two camps of Cox's Bazar district where more than 26,000 Rohingya refugees have been living for the last 15 years.
Two separate functions were organised at two camps on the occasion.
The secretary of the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management, diplomats, government officials and representatives from different organisations were present at Nayapara camp in Teknaf and Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya.
The organisers also arranged live concerts in those camps where singers including prominent band singer Ayub Bachchu entertained the refugees.
At the Nayapara camp, among others, Secretary of the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management Dhiraj Malaker, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bangladesh Pia Prytz Phiri and a number of refugees living in the camp delivered speeches.
Speaking on the occasion, Pia Phiri described the day as fantastic and said that her organisation had been organising the day for the last six years.
"But this is for the first time we have been able to entertain them (refugees) since they came to Bangladesh," she mentioned.
