Writ seeks cancellation of AL registration

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court (HC), seeking its directives to ban activities of Bangladesh Awami League and cancellation of the party's registration with the Election Commission (EC) for the indiscriminate killings of students during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, executive director of the Sarda Society, a rights organisation, filed the petition on Monday.
The petitioner also prayed to the court to pass order to change the names of the organizations which are named after Sheikh Hasina.
He also prayed to the court to grant three years' time to the present interim government for necessary reforms to pass order for bringing back laundered money worth Tk 11 trillion from abroad.
In the petition, he prayed to the court to pass order to bring change in all contractual appointment of the government bodies, including the Public Service Commission.
The petition may be placed in the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam for hearing on Tuesday, said the petitioner.
