State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said Sunday that destructive activities in the name of movement by the BNP would not be tolerated, reports UNB.
"There'll be zero tolerance when it comes to destructive activities in the name of movement," the State Minister told journalists at the Secretariat in the city on the day.
Asked to clear the government's position about BNP's post-Eid programmes, the State Minister said: "We don't want to create obstacles if BNP carries out a systematic movement. If they resort to violent activities, the administration won't remain silent. The administration will do whatever is needed."
As a political party, he said, BNP has the right to wage a movement, but warned that the movement needs to be systematic. "If people are burned to death, if lives and assets are threatened, the administration has the responsibility to take actions, he added.
Mr Asaduzzaman also noted that Awami League (AL) and the 14-party-alliance would tackle BNP's movement politically. "But that doesn't mean we'll attack or assault them physically," he said.
Asked whether permission would be given to BNP to hold rallies and other programmes, the State Minister said: "They had held meetings before, but we want those to be systematic."
About the law and order situation during the Eid holidays, he said it was under control during the Eid as people moved without any obstacles as the law enforcing agencies, including RAB and police, performed their duties very well.
