Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Friday that General Ziaur Rahman is a villain in the history of Bangladesh, reports BSS.
Ziaur Rahman built a children's park at the place in Suhrawardi Udyan, where the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered after the liberation war, to hide the shame and satisfy the Pakistanis and their collaborators, he said while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 9th founding anniversary and the 6th recitation programme of Sangbrita at the Dhaka University TSC auditorium.
Those who try to distort history are discarded in the dustbin, the minister said, adding that people like Ziaur Rahman would be thrown into the dustbin of history.
National Housing Authority Chairman Shahidullah Khandakar, Dhaka Police Super Habibur Rahman and Bangladesh Recitation Council Joint General Secretary Maksud-e-Sattar addressed the function as special guests while Sangbrita President AKM Shamsuddoha was in the chair.
Sangbrita General Secretary Samsuzzaman Babu moderated the function.
The two-day recitation programme has been dedicated to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The information minister said the country's politics is now reverting to the healthy path and the country is turning around.
The killers of Bangabandhu have been hanged and razakars (collaborators) have also been executed, he said, adding that the perpetrators of August 15 grenade attacks are being tried.
