Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque criticised Friday BNP saying that the party did politics capitalising on religion during its regime, reports BSS.
BNP did not make any law for Islam, he said adding that religion and politics cannot mix together.
The Minister said this while speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh United Islami Party (BUIP) at the National Press Club in the city Friday marking formation of its Dhaka committee.
Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam and Awami League Publicity Secretary Dr Hassan Mahmud spoke on the occasion as the special guests.
Presidium member of the party Maulana Mufti Tajul Islam Faruqui addressed the function as the key speaker with its convener Moulana Ismail Hossain in the chair.
Mr Haque described militancy as an enemy of Islam and said Islam would never be established keeping company with militancy.
He said Islam is the religion of peace and it never permits chaos, killing, chopping trees and vandalism.
There is no place for terrorism and militancy in Islam, he said.
"I'll protest it if anyone hurt my religion but at the same time I will show respect to the religion of others," he said.
Mr Quamrul said the present government did a lot for Islam.
In this regard, he cited introduction of mosque-based Islamic education and formation of Arabic University in the country.
Dr Mahmud said BNP-Jamaat clique in the name of Islam is pushing the country towards anarchy.
