A minister claimed on Friday that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for forging a national unity in a bid to save herself from cases filed against her, reports UNB.
"She knows very well that she would face trial for killing people in arson and petrol bomb attacks. Now, she is calling for a national unity to save herself from lawsuits filed against her in connection with terrorism and killing people," Food Minister Qamrul Islam said.
Qamrul, also a joint general secretary of Awami League's Dhaka city unit, was addressing a discussion at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
Marking the BNP's 37th founding anniversary on Tuesday, Khaleda Zia urged the government to follow the politics of unity, welfare, development shunning the vengeful one for implementation of the spirit of Liberation War.
She also assured the ruling Awami League that her party would not go for any political revenge if it returns to power, and urged the government to arrange an election under a non-party administration after reconstituting the Election Commission with neutral people.
