A ruling Awami League leader has questioned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's leadership on why she is avoiding public appearance for more than a month after launching a violent anti-government agitation, reports bdnews24.com.
Publicity secretary Hasan Mahmood claims Khaleda had failed to mobilise 'even 10 people' in Dhaka after calling the agitations.
He made the comment at a discussion in Dhaka on Saturday after another group claiming to be the 'real BNP' called a three-hour shutdown for Monday demanding Khaleda's resignation.
Hasan urged the BNP chairperson to resign by accepting responsibility for the 'failure'.
"The main problem of the BNP and 20-party alliance is Khaleda Zia," he claimed.
"The BNP can only reach the people if it shuns her," he added.
