Two police personnel killed

in Kushtia road crash

KUSHTIA, Dec 17: Two police personnel were killed when a covered van hit the motorbike they were riding in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia on Tuesday. The deceased were Inspector Mojaharul Islam and ASI Koyed Uddin, both posted at Ishwardi DSB in Pabna district. Officer-in-Charge of Choudhahas Highway Police Station Abu Obaid said when the victims were coming from Ishwardi towards Kushtia the covered van hit the motorbike around 12 pm , leaving both police personnel dead on the spot. Abu Obaid added that preparations are underway to send the bodies to Kushtia General Hospital. — UNB

First automated fuel depot

inaugurated in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Dec 17: The country's first technology-based automated fuel marketing depot was inaugurated in Barura Upazila, Cumilla district. "This technology-driven depot will make the nation's fuel marketing system more transparent, faster, and safer, with no human involvement in fuel distribution," Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman Md Amin ul Ahsan said. Inaugurating the depot as the chief guest, he added that it has been established in the Mogbari area of Barura Upazila, alongside the Cumilla-Chandpur Highway. — BSS

Four illegal brick kilns

fined Tk 1.4m in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Dec 17: The District Administration on Wednesday conducted a mobile court drive against illegal brick kilns in Sadar upazila and fined four kiln owners a total of Tk 1.4 million and ordered permanent closure of their operations. The day-long raid was led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Shakil Ahmed. The action was taken against brick kilns operating without clearance from the Department of Environment (DoE). — BSS
