Slain Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi would live on in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh, Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus said on Saturday.

"Brave Osman Hadi, we have not come here to bid farewell to you. You are inside our hearts. As long as Bangladesh exists, you will remain in the hearts of all Bangladeshis. No one can remove that," he said in his last tribute to the uprising leader. The comment was made at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on the day, before the funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Zanaja) of martyred Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.

Prof Yunus said people across the country sympathised with Hadi on his political vision.

He said that the vision should stay alive in everyone's mind and should be followed. The Chief Adviser also said Hadi gave the nation a message that people would never forget. It would continue to inspire the nation.

Dr Yunus also said: "Dear Hadi, you wanted to take part in the election. You also showed us how to run an election campaign -- how to reach people, how to speak without hurting anyone, how to remain humble. You taught us all this. We want to follow these lessons in politics so that your spirit stays alive."

The pre-funeral prayer session was held after 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The Chief Adviser, other advisers, senior officials, politicians, and hundreds of thousands of people from different walks of life attended.

Standing beside the Chief Adviser were BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, National Citizen Party convenor Nahid Islam and others.

Manik Mia Avenue, two grounds near the South Plaza, and nearby areas were packed with people.

On 12 December -- one day after the schedule for the 13th National Election and referendum was announced -- Hadi was shot in the head at Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan area of the capital. He was treated at Dhaka Medical College first and then at Evercare Hospital in the city. When his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore on 15 December. He died there on December 17.
