ACC chief, two commissioners resign

FE REPORT | March 04, 2026 00:00:00

Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr MA Momen, along with two commissioners, resigned from their posts on Tuesday.

The two commissioners are Brig-Gen (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid and Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi.

ACC sources said the chairman and the commissioners cited personal reasons in their resignation letters submitted to the Cabinet Division.

Speaking to journalists while leaving his office, Dr Momen said he stepped down to make it easier for the new government to carry out its responsibilities.

There is no special reason  behind my resignation. It is personal, he said, adding that a new government may prefer a commission that better aligns with its expectations and work plans.

Dr Momen, a former secretary, was appointed ACC chairman on December 10, 2024, during the interim government. At the same time, Mr Azizi and Mr Farid were appointed as commissioners.

The three submitted their resignation letters two weeks after the newly elected government assumed office.

Describing the move as a normal process following a change in government, Dr Momen said a political administration typically seeks to implement its own manifesto and priorities.

He expressed hope that more suitable individuals would now take responsibility, which could benefit both the commission and the state.
