Qatar has announced a one-month extension for all entry visas that have expired or are close to expiry in a welcome move meant for stabilising the legal status of residents and visitors amid regional turmoil.
The decision, confirmed by the Ministry of Interior, took effect on February 28 and may be extended further depending on developments, officials said.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka said Tuesday that the extension process would be automatic, carried out through electronic systems without requiring individuals to visit government offices or submit additional applications.
"No fees will be charged either for the extension," says one official.
The measure applies to all categories of entry visas. However, authorities clarified that individuals whose visas had incurred violations prior to February 28 must first settle any outstanding fines for the period of overstay.
Once the requisite payments are made, the extension and fee exemption will apply from that date.
