10 DU journalism students receive 'Sitara Parveen Award'

Ten students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka (DU) have received the 'Professor Sitara Parveen Award' in recognition of their outstanding academic performance in the 2023 undergraduate examinations.
The award-giving ceremony was held on Sunday (January 18) at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The certificates were handed over by the chief guest, DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Saima Haque Bidisha, to the students who achieved the highest CGPAs from the department's 14th batch (2017-18 session).
This year's award recipients are Azra Humayra, Md Mujjammil Haque, Abir Ferdous Ayon, Kouritra Poddar Tirtha, Ashrifa Sultana Riya, Sumaiya Jahan, Afrina Sultana, Bandhan Deb, Afrin Jahan, and Md Rafiuzzaman Labib.
The programme was chaired by Professor Dr Taibur Rahman, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and acting chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.
Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, attended the event as the guest speaker. Retired Professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali, along with teachers and students of the department, were also present.
Professor Sitara Parveen was a faculty member of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. She was the daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and the wife of retired professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali. She died in a road accident in the United States on June 23, 2005. To honour her memory, her family introduced the award in 2006.
