BD leads Asia in fulfilling global tobacco control promises

Speakers at webinar on Sunday informed Bangladesh is the first and only country in Asia that has classified cigarette filters as "single-use plastic (SUP)", reports BSS.

This timely decision was adopted as a move towards implementing Article 18 of the WHO FCTC, which addresses the issue of environmental protection in tobacco production and manufacturing during the Conference of the Parties (COP)-10, said a press release.

At COP-11, held in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 17-22, 2025, the Bangladesh delegation presented its achievements on this issue and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring law amendment as well as bolstering overall tobacco control efforts.
