A Dhaka Court on Sunday placed Desh TV Managing Director (MD) Arif Hasan on a two-day remand in a case filed over an attempt to murder of one Md Sajib in Airport area during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement on July 19.

Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the police to place him on remand.

The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Md Abu Sayeed, also a sub-inspector of the Airport Police Station, produced him before the court with a three-day remand prayer.

In the remand prayer, the IO said the accused avoided giving correct information about the case. So, he needs to be placed on remand to find out whereabouts of the FIR-named accused and other fugitives, responsible for committing such offences.

According to the case statement, Md Sajib took part in the protest in Airport area at around 5:00 pm on July 19. When their procession reached in front of Uttara Scholastica School, Awami League and its front organisations attacked the procession with arms that left Sajib and several others injured.

Soon after the incident, Sajib was rushed to Utrara Adhunik Hospital for treatment. The victim's father filed the case with Airport Police Station against 26 people, including Arif, after his arrest.

Police arrested Arif Hasan from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he was trying to go abroad on Saturday night. Arif is also the General Secretary of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO).
