JU pays homage to Liberation War martyrs

Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed the Independence Day and National Day on Thursday with due respect and patriotic fervour.

In the morning, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan paid tributes to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Martyrs' Memorial.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Abdur Rob, along with deans, hall provosts, the acting registrar, teachers, students, officers, and staff, were present.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said, "The Liberation War is unparalleled in the country's history and marks the birth of Bangladesh. Independence is a symbol of dignity, courage, and sacrifice, deeply rooted in the nation's collective memory."

"Even after 55 years, the spirit of independence has at times been hindered by economic, political, and social disparities", he added.

After the vice-chancellor's tributes, different organisations including the JU Teachers' Association, Women's Club, JUCSU leaders, Officers' Association, Employees' Association, Workers' Union, and various residential halls and departments also placed wreaths at the memorial.

Earlier, at sunrise, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman hoisted the national flag, while Treasurer Prof Dr Md Abdur Rob hoisted the university flag at the administrative building.
