Police arrest three over Musabbir murder

Police arrested three people in connection with the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir in Dhaka's Tejgaon area.

The detectives nabbed them early Saturday during separate raids in Manikganj and Gazipur, a Detective Branch (DB) official confirmed.

He said the arrestees include the alleged shooter Jinat and the suspected planner, Billal.The third detainee is believed to be an associate of the two.

Assailants gunned down Musabbir on Wednesday night in Tejturi Bazar area of Tejgaon in the city. Musabbir was the GS of Dhaka North unit Swechchhasebak Dal.

One, Sufian Byapari Masud, was accompanying Musabbir at the time. Masud sustained a gunshot wound and is currently undergoing treatment at DMCH.

Investigators recovered three 7.65mm bullet casings from the crime scene.

Musabbir and Masud were returning home from Super Star Hotel when assailants hiding in a dark alley opened fire. Musabbir was hit in the right elbow and abdomen and collapsed at the spot.

CCTV footage collected from the area shows two assailants running towards the Karwan Bazar main road, one of whom had his face covered.

Investigators believe at least five individuals were involved in the attack.

According to sources, tension has been brewing among different political groups in Karwan Bazar over extortion and control of the area since August 5.

Police are examining whether Musabbir's killing stemmed from internal party rivalry or broader political motives.
