10 leaders, activists of AL, BCL held in city

Ten leaders and activists of Awami League and its banned student wing Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested in separate drives in the capital early Sunday and Saturday following their alleged attempt to bring out surprise processions across the capital, reports UNB.
The arrestees are-Sabbir Ahmad Nirjhar, 28, Deputy Office Secretary of Dhaka North Chhatra League, Kamrul Ahsan Nishad, 28, Deputy Secretary for Environment Affairs of the same unit; Ibrahim Khalil alias Kalu, 25, Joint General Secretary of Ward-20 Chhatra League under Shahbagh thana; Shakil Hossain alias Jibon, 30.
Besides, Organisational Secretary of Dhaka South Chhatra League, Ohid M R Rahman, 50, Vice-President of Ward-29 Awami League under Mohammadpur thana, Shamim Shahriar, 58, Vice-President of Awami Swechchhasebak League, Ilias Kanchan, 64, President of Paity Unit Awami League under Demra thana; Mohammad Hossain Masum, 58, President of Ward-33 Banshal Unit Jubo League; Habibul Hasan Ratan, 34, Joint General Secretary of Ward-27 Jubo League under Dhaka North; and Robin Dewan, 29, a Chhatra League activist from Uttar Badda.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Mohammad Talebur Rahman said the arrestees were attempting to destabilise the country through bringing out sudden processions, creating panic among people.
Legal action will be taken against them, he added.
