The 11-Party Alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced nationwide protest programmes beginning tomorrow (Saturday) to demand the implementation of the July Charter in line with the referendum results.
The alliance will stage demonstrations in the capital, while similar programmes are scheduled to be held in divisional cities on April 25 and in district towns on May 2.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar announced the programmes at a press conference at Al-Falah Auditorium near Jamaat's central office in the capital's Moghbazar on Thursday.
He said leaflets will also be distributed and seminars organised in divisional headquarters and key district towns during the period.
Earlier, senior leaders of the alliance held a meeting at the same venue to determine their next course of action in the ongoing movement.
The meeting was chaired by Opposition Leader and Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman
Golam Porwar said the alliance will hold rallies in all city corporations and divisional headquarters, with the dates to be finalised later by its liaison committee.
He further said a mass rally in the capital would follow.
The Jamaat secretary general further said the next phase of programmes will be announced from the mass rally.
He alleged that the government was not respecting the public mandate.
He reiterated the 11-Party Alliance's demand for the legal recognition of the July Charter.
He added that the alliance would continue its phased programmes until the charter was implemented.
Senior alliance leaders, including chief whip of the opposition and NCP convener Nahid Islam, president of the Liberal Democratic Party Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad, chief of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Mamunul Haque and general secretary of the AB Party Asaduzzaman Fuad were present, among others.
