The residence of former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has been vandalised, looted and set on fire in an attack in Chandpur, reports bdnews24.com.
The incident took place in Matlab North upazila's Mohanpur on Saturday night, said Syed Muhammad Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Chandpur Fire Service.
"The ground floor of two three-storey buildings in Maya Chowdhury's residence was set on fire. We got news of the fire around 11:00 pm. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control," said Morshed.
Inspector (Investigation) Pradeep of Matlab North Police Station said: "I informed the higher ups immediately after receiving the news at night. Later, under the instructions of the superintendent of police, I went to the spot under the leadership of the sir in charge."
"We have been trying to gather information after bringing the fire under control. Legal action will be taken later," he added.
Chandpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Khairul Kabir Chowdhury said: "We received news regarding vandalism and looting at the house of former MP Maya Chowdhury in the evening. After that, we took the army, police, and Fire Service there."
