The National Citizen Party (NCP), part of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 10-party election alliance, has announced its candidates for 27 of the 30 seats allocated to it under the alliance's electoral understanding.

The party said candidates for the remaining three seats would be finalised soon.

On Sunday, the NCP posted posters featuring the names and photos of its candidates for 27 seats on its verified Facebook page, urging voters to support them using the "Shapla Kali" symbol.

Among the confirmed candidates are: party convener Nahid Islam (Dhaka-11); member secretary Akhter Hossain (Rangpur-4); chief organiser (south) Hasnat Abdullah (Cumilla-4); chief organiser (north) Sarjis Alam (Panchagarh-1); chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari (Dhaka-8); and senior joint chief coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud (Noakhali-6).

Other candidates include Ariful Islam Adib (Dhaka-18), Mahbub Alam (Lakshmipur-1), SM Saif Mostafiz (Sirajganj-6), Sarwar Tushar (Narsingdi-2), Abdullah Al Amin (Narayanganj-4), SM Suja Uddin (Bandarban), Maulana Ashraf Mahdi (Brahmanbaria-2), Jobairul Hasan Arif (Chattogram-8) and Mohammad Ataullah (Brahmanbaria-3).

Also contesting are Md Abdul Ahad (Dinajpur-5), Sultan Muhammad Zakaria (Noakhali-2), Dilshana Parul (Dhaka-19), Nabila Tasnid (Dhaka-20), Atik Mujahid (Kurigram-2), Zahidul Islam (Mymensingh-11), Saifullah Haider (Tangail-3), Jabed Rasin (Dhaka-9), Ali Naser Khan (Gazipur-2), Majedul Islam (Munshiganj-2), Shamim Hamidi (Pirojpur-3) and SM Zargis Qadir (Natore-3).

All will contest under the Shapla Kali symbol.

NCP joint convener and secretary of the central election management committee, Monira Sharmin, said the party had finalised candidates in 27 seats and would soon decide on the remaining three.

On Thursday last week, Jamaat, NCP and eight other parties announced an electoral understanding for 253 parliamentary seats at a press conference in the capital.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh was expected to join the alliance but later decided to contest 268 seats independently while supporting other parties in the remaining 32.

Under the alliance, NCP is contesting 30 seats, although 47 of its candidates had submitted nomination papers.

Following Islami Andolan's withdrawal, NCP has begun talks with Jamaat to expand its seat allocation.
