Abahani atop table in V-day Hockey

Title contender Abahani Ltd sent early warning as they made sure of topping the table with an emphatic 3-1 goal win over BKSP in the UCB Victory Day Hockey Tournament at the completion of the first round of the league phase at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city Sunday, reports BSS. Both Abahani and Bangladesh Army qualified for the final securing 13 points each with four wins and a draw, but Abahani bagged the top spot by the virtue of better goal difference. The two table toppers will meet in the final that will be held on Tuesday at the same venue. In the day's match, national striker Russell Mahmud Jimmy was in impressive form as he scored a brace while Kamruzzaman Rana netted the other one goal for Abahani Ltd. Raihan Chowdhury scored the consolation goal for BKSP. Earlier in the day's first fixture, Bangladesh Army defeated Bangladesh Police by 6-1 goals.
