B League champions Dhaka Abahani reached the semifinal of the Citycell Super Cup Football beating Chittagong Mohammedan by 2-1 goals in the group A match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Friday, reports UNB.
In the day's match, Nigerian striker Emeka Christian Ibe struck twice-one goal in each half-for the sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit, while foreign recruit Raphael Sagno netted for Chittagong Mohammedan. The match was locked 1-1 during the first half.
Sagno put Chittagong Mohammedan ahead in the 39th minute with an angular shot from inside the danger zone after receiving a cross from skipper Kaiser (1-0).
Emeka, the hero of the tournament's opening match, restored the parity for Dhaka Abahani in the 43rd minute with a shot from a goalmouth melee after taking a pass from Wally Faisal (1-1).
Emeka scored his second goal to seal the fate of the match again from the goalmouth melee after a pass from defender Sujan three minutes before the long whistle (2-1).
In the opening matches, Dhaka Abahani blanked Rahmatganj MFS 3-0 while Chittaging Mohammedan upset Sheikh Russell KC by 2-0 goals, both Wednesday at the same venue. meantime, Sheikh Russell KC kept their hope of a semifinal berth alive as they edged past Rahmatganj MFS by a solitary goal in Group A match of the Citycell Super Cup Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Friday.
After a barren first half, Serbian striker Vukadin Milonivic scored the all-important goal for Sheikh Russell KC in the 52nd minute with a volley from inside the danger zone utilising a right wing cross from Moroccan recruit Samir Omari.
Sheikh Russell KC will play their last group match against B League champions Dhaka Abahani Sunday at 5:30 pm at the BNS.
