Afghanistan made a good start in the seven-nation DBBL Asian Senior Men's Central Zone Volleyball Championship beating Uzbekistan by 25-22, 18-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13 points (3-2 sets) in a keenly contested Group B opener at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur Sunday, reports UNB.
The day's 2nd match between Kyrgyzstan and Nepal was in progress till filing this report.
Earlier, hosts Bangladesh made a flying start beating the Maldives by 3-1 sets in the tournament opener Saturday afternoon after opening declaration by Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed during a colourful opening ceremony.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) has arranged the country's first-ever international volleyball meet of its kind, under the auspices of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) billed for May 23-28.
Seven countries, split into two groups-Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan (Group A), and Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (Group B)-- are competing in the six-day continental meet. Later, two top teams from each of the groups will play the semifinals.
Today's (Monday) matches: Afghanistan vs Turkmenistan (2:00 pm), Kyrgyzstan vs Bangladesh (4:00 pm), and Nepal vs Maldives ( 6:00 pm).
