CAIRO, Jul 22 (AFP): The 2008 African Nations Cup draw in Ghana has been moved forward one day to October 19, the organisers said Sunday.
Accra will host the event with 16 qualifiers divided into four groups from which winners and runners-up advance to the quarter-finals of a competition first staged 50 years ago in Sudan.
Ghana are guaranteed a place as host nation and Angola, Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan and Tunisia have also secured places with the final qualifying fixtures slated for the weekend before the draw.
Matches will be played in Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale and the African Football Confederation (CAF) are planning an eighth pre-tournament inspection in mid-September.
CAF said Tunisian Slim Aloulou will lead a delegation charged with checking the four venues plus training and hotel facilities ahead of the biennial African football showpiece won by hosts Egypt last year.
