Pacer Alauddin Babu became the first bowler in the second edition of NCL T20 to claim a five-wicket haul as Rangpur Division registered its first victory in the tournament, thrashing Barishal by six wickets at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Monday, reports BSS.
Put into bat first, Barishal were bundled out for a meager 106 in 19.3 overs after Alauddin claimed five wickets for just 16 runs.
He was ably supported by Nasir Hossain's 2-16. Nasir dismissed the two openers-- Rafsan Al Mahmud and Iftekhar Hossain Ifti-- inside seven overs to put the side on top.
Fazle Mahmud top-scored for Barishal with 27 and looked to steady the ship until Alauddin intervened.
Alauddin scythed down the middle order and lower order, keeping Barishal at bay, moving the ball admirably in both ways. Zahidduzaman who scored 22 not out, was responsible in taking the side past 100, which looked like a distant dream at one phase.
Opener Anik Sarker Shatu hammered a 35 ball-54 not out to sail defending champions Rangpur home in just 13.3 overs as they reached 109-4 for a first victory in the ongoing tournament.
