Bangladesh Archery Federation appointed high profile German coach Frederick Martin for five years under its 'Teer Go for Gold Project' to improve the standard and efficiency of national archers and the talented budding local archers, reports UNB.
Earlier on October 23 last year, City Group (Teer) signed a five-year deal with Bangladesh Archery Federation for the development of the game including sponsoring the national championship and tournaments in a view to overcome the country's medal drought in the Olympic Games and Asian Tournaments.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BAF) Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal introduced the newly appointed coach at a press conference at the Dutch Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympics Association in the city on Monday.
Executive Director (Marketing & Finance) of the Federation's sponsor City Group Shoeb M. Asaduzzaman also briefed the newsmen about their future plan for development of the game.
BAF vice president and convener of the game development committee Anisur Rahman Dipu was also present on the occasion. Martin, who arrived in Dhaka on February 14 after serving German Shooting and Archery Federation and Chilean Archery Federation as the Head Coach during 2005-2017, signed five year contract with Archery Federation at the same function in presence of sponsor representative Shoeb M Asaduzzaman.
As per deal, the German coach will receive a salary of US $ 5,000 per month in addition to free accommodation and two return air tickets, initially for the first year. The five-year contract will be renewed after every six months.
Addressing the sports journalists, German Coach Martin announced and explained his three-phase future plan ---long term, middle term and short team.
In the long term plan, he wants to turn Bangladesh into one of the top teams in Asia, in the middle term plan he wants to advance Bangladesh's world ranking with some success in international events and in the short term he will give emphasis on planning, training, promotion of talents and knowledge transfer. Replying to a query, Martin said, "I have visited Bangladesh in December last year and I am inspired to take over the charge of Bangladesh team as I saw some good archers, a motivated team and good sponsor here."
