Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) will start their campaign for the 17th Asian Games Incheon-2014 through a "Fun Run" in the the city today (Friday), reports UNB.
A 150-member Bangladesh contingent is expected to compete in 21 disciplines of sports in the biggest continental sports carnival to be held in Incheon, the 3rd largest South Korean city, from September 19-October 4 this year.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) have jointly organised the "Fun Run", introduced in the Asian Games history for the first time, will be organised in all participating countries as the Game's promotional event.
The ceremonial fun run came to Bangladesh as the 23rd Asian countries after making its campaign in 22 countries with a view to encouraging youths and creating awareness about health, hygiene and environmental issues.
The fun run in the capital will start at 8:30 am today (Friday) from Shishu Academy with the participation of selected school and college students, athletes, sport organisers and the participants of the Asian Games. The run will terminate at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, also a councillor of BOA, will inaugurate the run.
The details of the "fun run" were disclosed at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of BOA Thursday in the presence of two OCA and five IAGOC delegates.
BOA Secretary General Syed Shaheed Reza, BOA Deputy Secretary General cum convener of Fun Run Organising Committee Imtiaz Khan Babul, OCA Representative Vahid Kardany and Deputy Secretary General (Operation) of IAGOC Su Jung Ghyu addressed the press conference, conducted by Quamrunnahar Dana.
Addressing the newsmen, OCA representative Vahid Kardany said: "We have come here to promote our games across the country (Bangladesh) and to attract the youths for successful holding of the ensuing Asian Games."
Five IAGOC delegates-Su Jung Ghyu, Seo Dong Seok, Pang Jeangseok, Yu Byung Jin and Shin Hyunsook-arrived in the capital Wednesday while OCA delegates Vahid Kardany and Nayaf Sraj reached the city Thursday to take part in the fun run. Another OCA delegate, Jian Zhou is expected here before the fun run.
The OCA and IAGOC delegates will leave the country for the Philippines tomorrow (Saturday).
