Bangladesh beat AIS in practice match

Touring Bangladesh national cricket team earned a three-wicket victory over Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) in their second practice match Wednesday at the Garden Oval in Darwin, reports UNB.

With the day's feat, Bangladesh took revenge of their 14-run defeat against their old rivals AIS in the first practice match Monday.

Sent in to bat first, Australian Institute of Sports posted a fighting 284 for 8 in the stipulated 50 overs riding on some useful innings from M Hill, S Smith and P Forest.

Number seven M Hill hammered team highest 59 off 52 balls that featured one four and three sixes while S Smith 42, P Forrest not out 36 and skipper M Henriques 32 came with some mediocre scores to near their total to the 300-mark.

Right-arm pacer Shahadat Hossain Rajib claimed three wickets conceding 64 runs in 9 overs while Alok Kapali, Abdur Razzak Raj, Dollar Mahmud and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each.

In reply, the Tigers reached their target scoring 288 for 7 with 31 balls to spare, thanks to two unbeaten fifties from wicket keeper Dhiman Ghose and Mashrafe in the lower order.

These two added valuable 97 runs in the eighth wicket stand to secure a morale booster victory for Bangladesh ahead of the three-match ODI series.

Mashrafe remained not out on 56 off 44 balls hitting six fours and a six while Dhiman also made an unbeaten 56 off 60 balls with four boundaries and a six.

Earlier, Skipper Mohammad Ashraful's quick fired 27-ball-41, opener Mehrab Hossain's 27, Kapali's 24 and Shakib Al Hasan's 23 set the tone for the tourists.

Steven Smith captured three wickets for 56 runs while J Holland bagged two wickets for 51 runs.

Bangladesh team will start their three-match ODI series against mighty Australia on August 30. The remaining two ODI matches will be held on September 3 and 6, all at the TIO Stadium in Darwin.
