Bangladesh earn 10-wicket victory over Japan

Five-wicket hauls by captain Salma Akhter and Shuktara Rahman guided Bangladesh to bounce back in the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier'2011 beating Japan by 10 wickets in their 2nd Group B match at BKSP in Savar Tuesday, reports UNB.
Bangladesh women's team, which conceded a humiliating 73-run defeat against Pakistan in their opening match Monday, will play Ireland Friday hoping to achieve their first target of reaching the super six stage.
In the day's remaining matches, Pakistan (1412 in 32.2 overs) notched second successive victory beating Ireland (14010 in 44.3 overs) by eight wickets while Sri Lanka (623 in 14.3 overs) tasted the first win in their 2nd match defeating the Netherlands (6110 in 41.3 overs) by seven wickets.
Batting first after winning the toss at BKSP ground 3, Japan were dismissed cheaply for 38 runs in 28.3 overs against devastating spin attack by local skipper Salma Akhter and Shuktara Rahman, who equally shared the ten wickets.
In the day's low scoring match, Japan did not start so badly with the two openers scoring 21 runs in 11.2 overs, but lost three wickets in next 7.1 overs for 8 runs (29 for 3in 18.3 overs). However, the visitors lost the remaining seven wickets in next 10 overs adding only another nine runs.
Among the Japanese, only opener M Yamamoto reached the double figure scoring 12 runs off 41 balls with one boundary.
Captain Salma Akhter, who made the first breakthrough dismissing Japanese opener M Yamamoto for 21 runs in 11.2 overs, eventually grabbed five wickets for five runs with six maiden in her nine over spell and was adjudged player of the match.
Shuktara Rahman, who took the 2nd and 3rd wickets, also finished with an excellent bowling figure of 5 for 9 in 7.3 overs.
Chasing a small, Bangladesh took only 4.4 overs to score the match-winning 39 runs without losing any wicket.
Shuktara contributed not out 16 off 12 balls with three boundaries while another opener Ayesha Akhter remained not out with 13 runs off 16 balls with two fours. Another 10 runs of the innings came from extras.
