Bangladesh likely to replace Sri Lanka as Asia Cup hosts

Asia Cup-2022 is likely to be shifted to Bangladesh as Sri Lanka is currently facing financial crisis, report agencies.

It must be noted that months of blackouts and acute shortages of food, fuel and medicines have caused widespread suffering across the South Asian island nation.
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering Bangladesh as an alternative venue to host the Asian event which was last held in 2018 in Dubai.
Neither Pakistan nor India are in a position to emerge as possible candidates due to geopolitical tension between both countries, leaving UAE and Oman as the other two options where the extreme temperature remains a huge concern.
"Bangladesh is just an option at the moment and the ACC is observing Sri Lanka situation before coming to a final decision. UAE is definitely not an option to host matches in late August and early September," a source close to the matter disclosed it.
Asia Cup is initially scheduled from August 27 to September 11 in Sri Lanka. India will defend its title in the event.
